GONZALES — Police made two arrests in connection with the Wednesday morning shooting and robbery of a Gonzales man, Detective Sgt. Steven Nethken said Thursday.
Antonio Coleman, 39, 1220 Willow St., Gonzales; and Tony Darnell Williams, 37, whose address is unknown, were booked Thursday with one count each of principal to attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Nethken said.
Police were called to the Palms Apartments on Coontrap Road at about noon on Wednesday, Nethken said, where a resident had been shot in the chest.
Police said the victim told them that two men forced their way into his apartment and demanded money. One of the men shot the victim, then both fled with the cash, Nethken said.
The victim accused Coleman of being one of the robbers, Nethken said, and further investigation led police to Williams, who was identified as the gunman by the victim.
Coleman and Williams were being held in the Ascension Parish Jail. Bond has not been set for either.
The victim is recovering in a hospital, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said Thursday evening.
