City police officers were looking Friday for two men and a woman who worked together to distract sales staff at Wright’s Furniture earlier this week so one of them could steal money from the cash register.

Det. Sgt. Steven Nethken said Friday two of the thieves posed as customers, even lying on mattresses in the furniture store at 202 W. Ascension St., Gonzales, Monday while one of them went for the register.

“They went all out with that,” Nethken said Friday.

The group made off with $200 from register and an employee’s purse, though the purse was found later hidden on the showroom floor with nothing missing, police said in a news release.

The three thieves left the store in a small, black four-door vehicle, police said.

Anyone with information should call the Gonzales Police Department at (225) 647-9572 or Crime Stoppers by calling (225) 344-STOP (7867).
