Twenty-two marching bands from Louisiana and Mississippi are set to compete in the sixth annual Dutchtown Invitational Marching Festival on Saturday at Griffin Stadium.
The event, one of the largest marching festivals in the state, is sponsored by the Dutchtown Sound Band Boosters, according to a news release from festival organizers. The Louisiana College and Dutchtown Sound bands will be featured in exhibition performances.
Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and the first performance is at 11 a.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for anyone 5 and younger or 65 and older. For information, email Margaret Schlaudecker at email@example.com.
Falconaires to perform
The Falconaires, a jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, is set to perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Jambalaya Park.
The band will play a series of classic jazz songs and a selection of patriotic numbers.
COA Halloween Party set
Area seniors are invited to wear their best Halloween costumes at the Ascension Council on Aging Halloween Party on Oct. 21.
The party, at 9:30 a.m. at the Gonzales Senior Center, is open to parish seniors ages 60 and older.
Prizes will be awarded for the funniest, prettiest, scariest and most original costumes. Food, door prizes and music are all on tap. Musician Cliff Nickens will perform.

Poster contest planned
Oct. 21 is the deadline to submit an entry in the Veterans Day poster contest.
The contest, sponsored by the Ascension Republican Women, is open to Ascension Parish middle and high school students.
The posters should honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. military, according to a news release from the ARW.
Posters can refer to past or present wars or military actions such as World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, Iraq and Afghanistan. Posters may depict service members or symbols of their service such as the uniforms of the services, the flag or medals awarded for meritorious service or bravery.

Donelon to speak
Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon will be the featured speaker at the Ascension GOP Roundtable at noon Thursday at Kamal’s Kafe, 13091 Airline Highway, Gonzales.
Sponsored by Ascension Republican Women, the luncheon costs $13.
Republican candidates for statewide and local offices are invited to the meeting.
