PLATTENVILLE — The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Kids’ Safety Expo on Saturday offers child safety seat checks and child fingerprinting along with useful safety tips for youth.

Deputies said child safety is an issue because an average of two young children are killed and 340 are injured daily in auto crashes nationwide.

Nine out of 10 child safety seats also are installed incorrectly in autos, deputies said in a news release. Checks of child seats can help prevent their misuse, deputies said.

The expo, which will also include a driving course for teens,

Halloween safety bags for trick-or-treaters, a spacewalk and refreshments, lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Payless Shopping Center parking lot, 260 La. 70 Spur, Plattenville.

Technicians will conduct child safety seat checks by appointment only.

For appointments, call sheriff’s Capt. Ray Traigle at (985) 369-7281.
