LABADIEVILLE — An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a man accused of robbing a 72-year-old woman cab driver at knifepoint, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said.

The warrant cleared the way for deputies to arrest Devin Daigle, 22, 108 Michelle St., Labadieville, on counts of armed robbery and perpetration of a crime against a person older than 65.

Daigle already was being held in the parish detention center on separate drug charges, the sheriff said. The state Office of Probation and Parole also had put a hold on Daigle.

A knife, suspected cocaine and three pills were found in the apartment where Daigle had been arrested in connection with the drug case, deputies said in a news release.

Deputies said that Daigle called the cab around 6 a.m. Monday for a ride from the St. John community to Labadieville.

When the cab driver picked him up, Daigle directed her to his home at 108 Michelle, where he went inside under the pretense of getting some money to pay for the ride, deputies said.

Daigle then returned and asked to be driven to an automatic teller machine to get money for the cab fare, deputies said.

While the cab was heading for the nearby ATM, Daigle brandished a knife, took the driver’s cash and fled from the cab, deputes said.
