NAPOLEONVILLE — A second person has died from a head-on crash on La. 1 in Assumption Parish on Monday that already claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl earlier this week.
Brandon Pennison, 34, of Gray, was declared dead Thursday at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Trooper Evan Harrell, spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop C, said Friday that Pennison was a passenger in a 2014 Honda Civic that crossed the center line of La. 1 and collided with a 2008 Nissan Altima in Napoleonville shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.
The driver of the Altima, which was headed northbound, tried to go into the northbound shoulder of La. 1, but the car was still hit.
Neveah Pierson, 10, of Gray, also a passenger in the Civic, was not properly restrained and was killed. The Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene Monday, troopers said.
Her mother, Sommer Pierson, 31, of Gray, was driving the Civic and received moderate injuries, troopers said.
Dale Robertson, 60, of Oscoda, Michigan, the driver of the Altima, had moderate injuries and was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
Sommer Pierson remained in fair condition at Our Lady of the Lake on Friday, hospital officials said.
Troopers have said impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Harrell said Friday that any citations or counts stemming from the crash await the results of blood tests.
