ROSARY PRAYER GROUP The rosary prayer group of the Archbishop Rummel Parent-Booster Club will gather at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the chapel of the school, 1901 Severn Ave., Metairie. ST. ROSE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The 2017-18 student of the year at St. Rose Elementary School is Saniya Abbas, a fifth-grader in Bruce Thompson's class. She was chosen on the basis of her overall grade-point average from grades three through five, community service, leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities. 

 BROTHER MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL: The Louisiana Music Educators Association has chosen Cameron Balser, a junior at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, for its All-State Orchestra. Balser was the highest-scoring percussionist in the orchestra wind ensemble section from the association's District VI.

  MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY: The Mount Carmel Academy quiz bowl team won the junior varsity championship at the LSU Spooktacular Invitational on Oct. 28 at LSU. It defeated teams from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, finishing the playoffs with an undefeated record. The team will next compete at the Cajun Quiz Bowl at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Nov. 18. Mount Carmel will host an invitational on Dec. 2.

ACADEMY OF OUR LADY: Members of the National English Honor Society at Academy of Our Lady in Marrero collected 792 books during a recent donation drive for the Friends of the Jefferson Parish Public Libraries and St. Vincent de Paul.

JOHN L. ORY MAGNET SCHOOL: Student Pledge Against Gun Violence Day brought several officers from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office to John L. Ory Magnet School in LaPlace recently. The pledge asks students to keep guns out of schools and to avoid the urge to pick up a gun to settle disputes. 

ST. ANN CATHOLIC SCHOOL: The St. Ann Home and School Club will hold a general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the gym of the school, 4921 Meadowdale St., Metairie. Attendees are encouraged to bring Adopt-An-Angel gifts. There will be a holiday shopping boutique at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
