THE 74: Two New Orleans educators are among a dozen highlighted recently in an article on the74million.org, a news site covering education in America, where there are 74 million children. On the list of "extraordinary and inspiring educators we met this year" are Jamar McKneely, CEO of InspireNOLA Charter Schools; and Angelique Shorty-Belisle, director of Educare’s New Orleans Center.

ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART: A team of Upper School economics students at the Academy of the Sacred Heart has advanced to the second round of the 2018 Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge. A partnership between Junior Achievement New Orleans, the Brees Dream Foundation and the Idea Village, the competition teaches entrepreneurial thinking to high school students. The Sacred Heart team of three students is among 25 teams of semifinalists chosen from nearly 300 entries, which were announced by Drew Brees on Dec. 18. As semifinalists, students will be mentored by local entrepreneurs and community leaders to fine-tune their business pitch. After their training, there will be a few days of online voting in early March. Finalists will then be selected to present their ideas at a culminating event during the Idea Village's New Orleans Entrepreneur Week in late March.

ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC: Placement testing for prospective students at St. Charles Catholic High School will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the school, 100 Dominican Road, LaPlace. LAKEWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The teacher of the year at Lakewood Elementary School is Jessica Brevelle, who has taught at the Luling school for six years of her 14-year career. Brevelle teaches language arts.
