More than a dozen hot air balloon pilots from across the country will be converging on Sidney D. Torres Memorial Park, 3338 Jean Lafitte Parkway, in Chalmette for the inaugural Bayou Road Balloon Festival Nov. 10-12. The event is being organized by the managers of the New Orleans Home & Garden Show.
Balloons will be anchored around the festival grounds, creating a vividly colorful backdrop. Festivalgoers will be able to take tethered rides, and each evening, just after sundown, the balloons will be fully inflated as pilots ignite their burners to create a Balloon Glow.
Festival hours will be from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 for a single day or $10 for the weekend, and are available online at www.bayouroadballoonfestival.com/tickets. Ticket sales at the gate will be cash-only. Weather permitting, tethered balloon rides will be available for $20 for adults and $15 for children, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday and at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Live music performances will include Category 6 on Friday, New Rebel Family and Voodoo Gumbo on Saturday, and Woodenhead and the Pocket Aces Brass Band on Sunday. There also will be carnival rides and games, arts and crafts vendors, and a beer garden with oversize games including human foosball, giant Jenga and kick darts.
