The Chalmette High School Alumni Association’s annual golf tournament will be held Saturday at Oak Harbor Golf Course in Slidell, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., a putting contest qualifying round will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and the contest finals will follow. Awards will be presented for closest to the hole and longest drive. Food and drinks will be available.
The cost is $90 per golfer, or $360 per team of four. Participation is limited to the first 144 players to register.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100, $180 or $240. Checks made payable to the Chalmette High School Alumni Association can be mailed to 200 E. St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette, LA 70043.
First-time homebuyer’s clinic
The St. Bernard Parish Office of Fair Housing, in collaboration with Family Resources of New Orleans and Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, will host a free first-time homebuyer’s educational clinic at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center grand ballroom, 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

The St. Bernard Parish Library’s fifth week of summer reading activities is underway with a “Bulk Up!” story-craft program at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Participants will feast on stories such as Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” and each will make a take-home craft.
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. officers Lt. Lisa Jackson and Sgt. Darrin Miller will be at the library at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to share tips on personal safety and bike safety, as well as information on 911.
The Friday with the Arts program will continue at 3 p.m. Friday with Jennette Ginsburg, of Hey Now Hooping. Ginsburg will take the art of hula-hooping to a whole new level. Children can learn some new moves to make this healthy activity even more fun. Funding for this new program comes from the Antique Auto Club of St. Bernard.
Pre-readers through 12th-graders are reminded that the deadline to turn in their completed game sheets is July 14. Readers who finish by the deadline will receive reading rewards and have their names entered into the grand finale prize drawing set for 3 p.m. July 15. Winners must be present to claim their prize.
Adult readers have until July 30 to complete their games to be entered into their prize drawing. Prize sponsors are the Antique Auto Club of St. Bernard, Audubon Institute, Chalmette Movies, Crave! Bar and Grill, J & M Jewelers, Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard-Arabi, Louisiana Children’s Museum, McDonalds, National World War II Museum, New Orleans Paddlewheels Inc. and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.

Country line dancing lessons
The St. Bernard Parish Recreation/Leisure Program will offer adult country line dancing classes July 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 at the Val Riess Sports Complex, 1101 Magistrate St. in Chalmette. Classes are held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The cost is $4 per class. Participants ages 55 and older can participate for $2 per class. Checks or money orders should be made payable to St. Bernard Parish Recreation. Cash will not be accepted.

Antique auto cruise nights
The St. Bernard Rod Knockers’ monthly cruise night will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of The Palms Casino, 8001 W. St. Bernard Highway in Arabi.
Cruise nights are held the second Saturday of every month. Participation is open to all makes and models of antique, muscle and modified cars.

The Antique Auto Club of St. Bernard’s monthly cruise night will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 16 in the parking lot at Brewster’s Restaurant, 8751 W. Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette.
A car of the month will be named, and food will be available in Brewster’s. There also will be prizes and a raffle.
The club holds a cruise night on the third Saturday of every month in the parking lot. The event is open to the public, and participation is free.
Membership in the club is open to owners of classic and antique cars, as well as those who have an interest in them.
