LSU TIGER TWELVE: Grant Joseph Gonzales, a senior from Gretna, has been honored as a member of the Tiger Twelve Class of 2017 by the LSU Office of the Dean of Students. Gonzales, a biological engineering major, is a published researcher, working in the lab of LSU Professor Marybeth Lima, serving as a teaching assistant and working as a peer mentor. He was build manager for the LSU Community Playground Project, which aims to provide a safe playground to every public school student in Baton Rouge. He will pursue an master's degree this fall. Students selected as members of the Tiger Twelve exemplify the seven tenets outlined in the LSU Commitment to Community, a statement of LSU’s basic principles as an academic community.

LOVE PURPLE LIVE GOLD AT LSU: Vernon Dunn, of Metairie, was recently honored as graduate student leader of the year by LSU Campus Life, a department within the Office of the Dean of Students. Dunn, a biological sciences graduate student from Metairie, serves on the LSU Student Senate , was president of the Graduate Student Association for two years and was president of the Graduate School College Council.

  •  A Love Purple Live Gold Award also went to Alpha Kappa Psi, led by Michael Cusanza, a senior majoring in management from Metairie. LSU's chapter of the business fraternity has won the national chapter of the year award for the past three years.
  • Also, the Tom W. Dutton Award recognizing outstanding service to the university community was presented to Chloe Riviere, a junior from New Orleans majoring in political science and international studies.
