The spirit of Mardi Gras will permeate the social hall at Congregation Anshe Sfard beginning at noon Sunday, July 17, during a farewell luncheon for Rabbi David Polsky, who has been the congregation’s rabbi for five years.
Polsky is a great fan of Mardi Gras and all things New Orleans; his Twitter handle is @BigEasyRabbi. According to Southern Jewish Life Magazine, he served as rabbi for the Krewe du Jieux, marching with the krewe dressed as everything from a roach to Donald Trump.
Polsky has said he is moving to Michigan, where most of his wife’s family lives. According to the congregation’s Facebook page, Yochanan Rivkin will serve as interim rabbi beginning Aug. 1. The cost for the luncheon at 2230 Carondelet St.is $72, with discounts for children and young adults.
