Teams of students in world geography classes at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans have been working together to devise projects that could improve the quality of life in impoverished communities around the world. Students researched areas with inadequate housing, identified the most significant problem facing the community and collaborated to find a solution. Proposed projects included creating water filtration systems to help prevent disease, designing environmentally friendly trash compactors to reduce excess waste, and adding composting toilets in communities without indoor plumbing.
