The brother of a former Jefferson Parish president has been indicted on two counts of possessing and distributing child pornography, according to a document from U.S. District Court in Baton Rouge shared by WWL-TV.
A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted Christopher Young, a prominent lawyer and Baton Rouge-based lobbyist and the brother of former Jefferson Parish President John Young, according to the news site.
Chris Young has represented many New Orleans area bars and establishments serving alcohol before various local and state government agencies.
A news release shared by WWL-TV said Young, 53, allegedly received two videos “depicting prepubescent boys engaging in bestiality from an associate in Costa Rica,” where he is part-owner of a hotel.
“From 2013 through 2015, Young allegedly distributed the child pornography videos to approximately 38 different individuals, on 33 separate occasions, through his smartphones,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baton Rouge said in a news release.
On Sunday, Young’s attorneys sent a statement saying their client thought the videos were “a joke.”
“Chris Young has never possessed or distributed child pornography,” said the statement, according to WWL-TV. “Regrettably, the government has chosen to prosecute him for forwarding an inappropriate video that was sent in jest.”
