A flag-raising ceremony was conducted on Memorial Day at Westminster Towers in Kenner as resident Mattie Evans donated the flag from her fallen son, 1st Sgt. Bobby Lewis of the U.S. Army, to be flown in his memory.

Evans wanted to honor not only her son but all those who have served, who are presently serving and who gave the ultimate sacrifice for America’s freedom and liberties.

Members of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 230, of St. Catherine of Siena Parish; Eagle Scout George McLaughlin; Life Scout Gregory Gonzales; and First Class Scouts Michael McLaughlin and Stephen Gonzales joined with Eagle Scout Nicholas Harrington, of Troop 406 of Ascension of Our Lord Parish, to officiate the flag-raising ceremony.

Kenner firefighters Mike Keller, Devin Hastings, Jason Desoto, Capt. Armando Hernaze, Operator Emile Cancienne, Capt. Dedreck Stewart and Operator Jason Deist also attended the memorial.

The special day was made possible by the Westminster Towers Tenant Association under the leadership of Sidney Folse, president; Marion McGraw-Neves, vice president; Joia Henderson, secretary; and Vicki Usannaz, treasurer. A reception, hosted by the Westminster Towers Association, followed the ceremony.
