Kenner authorities issued 60 code violations to property owners after conducting a “mini-sweep” of two blocks on Martinique Avenue on Wednesday, the city said.
Complaints from people in the neighborhood led to the sweep in the 3500 and 3600 blocks of Martinique, the city said. The stretch runs north of West Esplanade Avenue and east of Williams Boulevard, just behind the busy Walmart Neighborhood Market, Fountain Square Shopping Center and the AMF All Star Lanes bowling alley.
According to Kenner, a dozen of the code violations involved unsafe electrical conditions, and another 11 were a result of litter and debris. There were six violations each for roofing problems and high grass; five each for abandoned vehicles and vermin/rodents; and four each requiring repairs to fences and windows, doors or screens.
Three violations went toward improper building maintenance, and there were three requests for either repairs or a demolition order. There was one boarding requirement violation.
Kenner said its Inspection and Code Enforcement Department is under a standing order to conduct sweeps around town to ensure property owners are complying with municipal laws.
