Incumbent Jefferson Parish School Board member Sandy Denapolis-Bosarge maintained a lead over Gene Katsanis, the former school board member she beat for the District 9 seat four years ago, as the first precincts reported results Tuesday night.

With 3 out of 22 precincts reporting, Denapolis-Bosarge had 1,259 votes, or about 53 percent of the total, while Katsanis had about 1,097 votes, or 47 percent of the total.

Denapolis-Bosarge is backed by the parish’s business community while Katsanis has support from the Jefferson Federation of Teachers, the union that represents educators in the school system.
