A pit bull attacked a girl and two women Wednesday afternoon in Waggaman, causing them to go to a hospital to be treated for bite wounds and a broken bone, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

People who were in the Sarah Street home said the dog and her puppies were in a bedroom when a 4-year-old girl opened the door to the room, said Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The dog responded by biting a 33-year-old woman on her leg and a 37-year-old woman on her arm.

As the adults reached out to grab the girl, the dog lunged forward and bit her on her arm, breaking it in the process.

None of the victims was seriously injured, Fortunato said.

The incident was reported at about 4 p.m. The dog was secured in the backyard by the time a deputy arrived.

Jefferson Parish Animal Control took possession of the 5-year-old pit bull and her puppies, Fortunato said.
