A state judge on Tuesday postponed a bond hearing for Matthew Flugence, the man accused of killing 6-year-old Ahlittia North in Harvey last month.

Attorneys for both sides agreed to a continuance until Sept. 18 because an officer could not be present for the hearing.

Jefferson Parish District Court Judge Caroline Kiff granted a request by Flugence’s attorney, Paul Fleming, to also hold a preliminary examination of both charges against his client at that hearing.

Flugence, who is charged with first-degree murder and sexual battery, is innocent and was arrested without probable cause, according to a motion filed by Fleming.
