A Jefferson Parish grand jury handed up a six-count indictment this week against Carlos Montero, a Kenner man accused of sexually abusing three children.
Montero, 52, was formally charged Thursday with two counts of aggravated rape of a juvenile, one count of sexual battery of a juvenile younger than 13, two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a juvenile and a count of failing to register as a sex offender.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is being held in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $1.7 million bail.
According to court documents, the incidents occurred between 2006 and 2016. The children were as young as 5 and 6 at the time.
Montero pleaded guilty in 2002 to carnal knowledge of a juvenile and drug possession, and he has two prior convictions for failing to register as a sex offender.
Montero was last registered in Gretna and did not update his address when he moved to Kentucky Avenue in Kenner.
Kenner police said in January that the children told investigators the sex acts included oral sex plus Montero masturbating in front of them and having them touch him sexually.
The case will be heard by 24th Judicial District Court Judge June Berry Darensburg.
