November will be proclaimed the month to officially honor the veterans of Jefferson Parish during a special ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15 in the Kenner City Council Chambers, 1801 Williams Blvd.
Before the Jefferson Parish Council meeting, in conjunction with the Jefferson Council on Aging, the official veterans’ proclamation will be read to honor the Jefferson seniors who have served in the armed forces.
The proclamation will also kick off a series of senior center celebrations where each veteran will receive a personalized certificate honoring them for their service.
“The Veteran Proclamation Program is a way we honor and provide dignity to our seniors’ service in the armed forces,” said Al Robichaux, executive director of JCOA.

- 11 a.m. Nov. 8, Estelle Senior Center, 5012 Ehret Road.

Help clothe a child
The Council of Catholic School Cooperative Clubs will hold its annual “Clothe-A-Child” shopping day at 8 a.m. Nov. 15 at Kmart, 2940 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie.
Members will shop for needy families of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Each family member will receive a wrapped gift containing clothing items. Monetary donations to help fund the project are due Nov. 10.
Last year, the club provided clothing for more 125 children.

Cook-off and car show
The Harahan Athletic Association will host its sixth annual Jambalaya Cook-off and Car Show from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Harahan Playground, 6601 10th St.
The Topcats will perform from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Seafood fest in Bucktown
The 20th annual Bucktown Seafood Festival gets underway this weekend on the grounds St. Louis King of France School, 1600 Lake Ave., Metairie.
Hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to food, there will be rides for children, games, auctions, gift baskets, a parade of prizes and raffles.
Musical acts include Contraflow, which will perform at 7 p.m. Friday. From noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Johnette Downing performs, followed by the Mande Milkshakers at 4 p.m. Then at 5 p.m., The Bow Office Giants take the stage.
And beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Amanda Shaw plays, followed at 5 p.m. by the Bucktown All-Stars.

Congratulations to local resident Doris Davis, who celebrated her 96th birthday on Oct. 25 with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the New Orleans area, North Carolina, Minnesota and California.
Davis is a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue and Community Center in Metairie and resides at Woldenberg Village on the West Bank.
