Former interim Kenner City Councilman Brian Brennan has announced his intention to run for the Dist. 5 seat vacated by Dominick Impastato, according to a news release.

Brennan, 58, served on the council once before -- as an appointed councilman in 2016 after at-large Councilman Keith Conley left to join Parish President Mike Yenni's administration.

Brennan will focus on helping the city's fire department improve facilities in order to help lower homeowner insurance premiums, he said. He also plans to advocate for the Kenner Police department and greater code enforcement, according to the release.

Brennan is vying for the seat Impastato left after he was elected in October to the Parish Council Dist. 4 seat, which was open after now-Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn left in January.

No other opponents have announced for the race. The election is March 24. Qualifying begins Jan. 3 and runs through Jan. 5.
