Incumbent Jefferson Parish School Board member Larry Dale took an early lead over Jefferson Federation of Teachers President Meladie Munch as the first returns rolled in Tuesday night.

With 16 out of 30 precincts reporting, Dale - a member of the business backed majority that has controlled the school board since 2010 - had 3,071 votes, or 56.7 percent of the total ballots cast. Munch had 2.350 or about 43.3 percent of the vote.

The campaign between Dale and Munch is perhaps the most stark example of the on-going fight between the union and the parish’s business community over control of the Jefferson Parish School Board.
