UPDATE: The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway re-opened about 3:11 p.m. without weather restrictions after closing about 2:25 p.m.

A thunderstorm early Monday afternoon knocked out power to more than 2,200 Entergy customers in Kenner. It also closed down the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in both directions about 2:25 p.m., and motorists driving to either Metairie or Mandeville were made to find an alternate route until the weather calmed.

Many of the power outages in Kenner occurred in residential areas between Joe Yenni Boulevard and Vintage Drive, as well as around Chateau Golf and Country Club. Entergy said it anticipated restoring services by about 3:30 p.m., but most customers seemed to have the lights back on before 3, according to the company.

About 400 people in Kenner lost power during a storm on Thursday evening. That storm was strong enough for a pro volleyball tournament held in Kenner this past weekend to suspend play on Friday. Late last month, during stormy weather that produced a small tornado in Kenner, 10,000 city residents lost power.

Entergy provides information about outages in the area on a map at its website.
