The Jefferson Parish Council has scheduled a special meeting Wednesday to vote on ratifying a new contract worth up to $350,000 for the consultant who previously helped the parish secure a deal to lease its publicly owned hospital in Marrero to a private operator.

If the contract is approved, Joshua Nemzoff will be guaranteed $275,000 for seven months of work helping the parish complete numerous administrative tasks associated with closing a $600 million deal for New Orleans-based LCMC Health to lease West Jefferson Medical Center.

The Parish Council will have the option of keeping Nemzoff on for another three months at $75,000.

Wednesday’s meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the council’s East Bank chambers, 1221 Elmwood Park Blvd.

Council members voted unanimously earlier this month to offer Nemzoff the contract.

Some council members had clashed with Nemzoff, a Pennsylvania-based expert on hospital mergers and acquisitions, mainly over the $1 million in fees he charged the parish for his work on the hospital deal before it closed.

But most council members have praised him for ensuring the parish got a favorable deal out of leasing the hospital, which for years had been in dire financial straits.

Nemzoff has pointed out that he initially proposed a flat fee that was almost $400,000 less than his final bill, but the parish preferred to pay him on an hourly basis.
