Authorities have identified the man shot early Tuesday morning in West Jefferson as Stacy Johnson Jr., 20, of 3889 Chriswood Lane in Harvey.
Officers reponding to reports of gunshots around 12:45 a.m. arrived at 3716 Clover Lane in Harvey to discover Johnson dead and Robert Cooley III, 19, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They also found and a number of spent shell casings of multiple calibers, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
JPSO said Tuesday that the two men and a friend, Deville Washington, were allegedly sitting in their car smoking marijuana when they heard gunshots. As they fled, Johnson was shot and killed, while Cooley was hit in the buttocks and Washington was uninjured. Cooley was taken to the hospital by his father and has been treated and released.
The men have told police they do not know who was shooting at them, JPSO said.
At the scene of the shooting, a nearby white Pontiac G-6 had several of its doors open and numerous bullet holes in it, the Sheriff’s Office said. A semi-automatic handgun could be seen on the back seat of the vehicle, as well as several bags of what appeared to be marijuana near the front door handle.
Crime scene technicians recovered a number of spent shell casings of multiple calibers near the area where the deceased victim and the Pontiac G-6 were located, the Sheriff’s Office said. A resident of 3721 Clover Lane discovered a bullet hole in a bedroom at that address. There were additional vehicles in the immediate area that also had bullet holes in them.
