The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has made three arrests in connection with a shooting about 10 p.m. Friday on Phlox Avenue in Metairie that left a 20-year-old Kenner man wounded.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of Phlox near Ligustrum Street. The site is near East Jefferson High School, where a football game was played Friday night at Joe Yenni Stadium between East Jefferson and Bonnabel High School.
The three men arrested, all of Metairie, were Larry Beauchamp, 23; Darius Gilbert, 24; and Andre Ridgely, 20.
Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said Gilbert and Ridgely were armed with handguns when they were arrested.
The victim was identified as Jason Henry. His wound was not life-threatening.
Ridgely was booked with illegal carrying of a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone, illegal discharging of a firearm and resisting arrest.
Beauchamp was booked with illegal carrying of a firearm at a school-sponsored function, illegal discharging of a firearm and simple possession of marijuana. He has prior arrests for possession of crack cocaine, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana and numerous traffic violations, the JPSO said.
Gilbert was booked with illegal discharging of a firearm within 1,000 yards of a school. Fortunato said Gilbert admitted that he fired his weapon during the incident. He had previously been arrested only for traffic offenses.
Police seized three semi-automatic handguns during the investigation.
Henry, who was wounded in his left arm, has prior arrests for possession of a handgun, disturbing the peace and traffic violations, according to the JPSO.
