Chateau Estates Lakefront residents in Kenner shouldn’t be alarmed if they notice smoke rising from the ground this week.

A sewerage contractor will be checking lines around the Sylvaner Sewer Lift Station sub-basin for leaks.

Kenner officials said Monday that the smoke testing will occur between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Residents have complained in recent weeks about low water pressure and problems flushing toilets during rainstorms.

Veolia Water North America said the nontoxic smoke may be seen rising from roof vents, building foundations and manhole covers, though it shouldn’t enter homes that are properly plumbed or vented. It should dissipate in several minutes with proper ventilation.

Veolia’s workers do not need to enter any homes or businesses, but residents may ask any questions they have about the smoke testing and let workers know if there are any leaks in their home or business.

For more information, call Veolia at (504) 468-7292 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
