The Kenner City Council approved Michael J. Power as interim city attorney Thursday. He will fill the post held by Louis Gruntz, who died last week.

Power was a partner in Ansardi, Maxwell & Power, which worked for the city for two decades until 2006. The firm has since disbanded, and Power now has his own practice.

He told the council that two of his former colleagues work in the City Attorney’s Office. He said he would strive to be fair in his work.

Gruntz, 67, was a longtime Jefferson Parish lawyer who spent more than three decades in the Jefferson Parish Attorney’s Office. He had been Kenner’s city attorney for only about eight months, replacing Keith Conley, who is now on the council.
