Some residents in New Orleans, Jefferson lose power as heavy rains, thunderstorms move through area _lowres

Northwestern parts of both Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes are under a flood advisory until 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Doppler radar showed thunderstorms moving across those areas about 3:30 p.m., the Weather Service said. Forecasters expected the heavy rain to cause minor flooding in communities such as Harvey, Marrero, Timberlane, Avondale, Belle Chasse, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Woodmere, Terrytown, Estelle, Bridge City and Poydras.

Entergy’s outage map at 3:50 p.m. showed that more than 800 customers in New Orleans had lost power in the storm. More than 200 in Jefferson had also lost power at that time.
