A man was shot in the hand and face in Terrytown during the course of an armed robbery early Wednesday, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said the 29-year-old victim told investigators he was walking in the 600 block of Deerfield Road after getting out of his car when he was approached by a gunman who commanded him to “give it up.”
The man told deputies he put his hands in the air, and on the second command to give up his money, he began reaching down with one hand toward his pocket to give the robber cash.
But at that point, the man said, the robber shot the man once, hitting him in the hand and face.
The victim told detectives the robber then rifled through his pockets, taking money and personal effects, according to Fortunato.
The victim was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center in stable condition. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening, Fortunato said.
Anyone with information about the robbery and shooting has been asked to contact the JPSO Robbery Division at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
