State Police are investigating how pieces of the body of a 19-year-old New Orleans woman ended up on Interstate 10 in Metairie on Wednesday morning.

A source said Jasilas Wright’s body was found in multiple pieces. It was not clear whether she had been hit by a vehicle or had been dismembered beforehand.

State Police were responding to a call about a dog in the roadway about 5 a.m. when they spotted Wright’s body on the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 between the Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Power Boulevard exits, Trooper Melissa Matey said.

Troopers closed westbound I-10 at Clearview Parkway until about 11 a.m., snarling morning traffic.

Matey said investigators had not determined Wright’s cause of death. “We are currently trying to determine how and why she was on the interstate,” she said.

State Police had no more details to release about the investigation late Wednesday afternoon.

In a separate case June 4, authorities discovered the body of Kaylan Ward, 16, on the eastbound I-10 overpass near Bullard Avenue in New Orleans East. The Coroner’s Office and Police Department said Ward died from multiple blunt trauma injuries sustained when she was hit by a car while walking on the highway.

Officials have not said whether they think the deaths of Wright and Ward are related.
