A student at Alfred Bonnabel High School in Kenner was slashed in the face with an eyebrow razor Thursday morning by another student who told authorities her victim had bullied her.
The slashing victim, a 14-year-old girl from Kenner, was taken to Ochsner Medical Center just before 9 a.m. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
The 15-year-old alleged assailant was taken into custody and booked on one count of aggravated battery, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Ritter, the detective assigned to the school, said the victim was stabbed in the lower part of her face while walking down a school hallway.
Ritter said the two girls had been having issues for quite some time, and the alleged attacker told authorities she was constantly being bullied by the victim.
The school was on lockdown for about 90 minutes because of the incident.
“We want to assure our students, parents and community that we are following the lead of the sheriff’s department at this time. Bonnabel’s campus is safe and secure,” Michelle Blouin-Williams, the Jefferson Parish public school system’s chief academic officer, said in a news release. “Parents of Bonnabel students may contact the school by phone if they have questions.”
