A 21-year-old man has been arrested for second-degree murder after allegedly shooting his mother to death on Thursday with a shotgun at their home in Metairie.
Under questioning by police, Chad McAvoy confessed to gunning down his mother and was booked on a count of second-degree murder, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto.
Deputies were initially told that 42-year-old Connie McAvoy had committed suicide in front of her husband and son at the family home in the 4800 block of Loveland Street.
But investigators soon determined that the woman's death was not a suicide, and took both men into custody for questioning.
Lopinto did not immediately discuss a possible motive in Connie McAvoy's killing. He said her husband was not facing any criminal charges as of Thursday night.
