Severe weather and numerous power outages forced officials to postpone Saturday night’s International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo award ceremony.

Both the ceremony and a prize drawing will be rescheduled at a later time, Jefferson Parish spokeswoman Kriss Fortunato said.

She said people should stay tuned to the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo’s Facebook page to learn when the ceremony will be rescheduled.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but the safety of the participants must be our first priority,” Fortunato said in a statement.

The three-day rodeo began Thursday.

Saturday’s one-hour awards ceremony was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. at the rodeo pavilion on La. 1.

This year marked the 87th edition of the rodeo, making it the oldest competitive fishing event in the United States.
