West Bank residents will have a chance next week to voice their opinions about the potential relocation of 13 miles of railroad tracks that run from the Harvey Canal through Gretna and down the Belle Chasse Highway into Plaquemines Parish.

The Regional Planning Commission is currently considering alternatives to the existing route, which has drawn complaints from residents, particularly in Gretna, where the train runs through the downtown area.

The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mel Ott Park Multi-Purpose Center, 2301 Belle Chasse Highway, Gretna.

Written comments can be sent to La. 23 Railway Project, P.O. Box 56845, New Orleans, LA 70156 or emailed to La23publicinfo@hdrinc.com by Oct. 6.
