The Kenner Police Department said it has arrested a man wanted for attempted murder.
Just after noon Friday, police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Warren Street, Sgt. Brian McGregor said. Upon their arrival, a 25-year-old man said he had been sitting on his porch when a man shot at him multiple times.
The shooter, later identified as 18-year-old Kenner resident Darren “D-Whiz” Thomas, hit the porch, the handrail, the garbage can and the cellphone that the victim was holding, McGregor said.
Thomas fled the scene but was eventually located in the 400 block of Farrar Avenue, where he was arrested.
Witnesses and the victim identified Thomas as the shooter, McGregor said. No gun was recovered, but Thomas did test positive for gunshot residue, which showed he had recently fired a gun.
He was booked with attempted second-degree murder. Police said they have yet to establish a motive.
Anyone with information on Thomas is asked to call Kenner police Detective Trey Hille at (504) 712-2213 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
