Thanksgiving holidays will begin early for students of Geraldine Boudreaux Elementary School in Terrytown, whose campus will be closed Friday because of a ventilation system problem.

A heater strip in the ventilation system malfunctioned Thursday morning, causing an odor to spread throughout the school at 950 Behrman Highway, officials said.

Maintenance crews will inspect and clean all the air ducts as a precaution, and classes won’t resume until after Thanksgiving, Jefferson Parish public school system spokeswoman Beth Branley said.
