Jefferson Parish councilman pushes background checks for coaches at public playgrounds _lowres

A Jefferson Parish grand jury has issued an 18-count indictment against James Prince, a Girard Playground coach who was arrested in October after he was accused of sexually abusing three boys years ago.

Prince, 44, of Metairie, was indicted on one count of aggravated rape related to a 2003 incident with a boy who was about 9 years old, nine counts of possession of child pornography, four counts of sexual battery and four counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Prince’s bail was set at $1.21 million. Aggravated rape carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Three victims came forward in October and told police that Prince had sexually abused them more than 10 years ago. One of them said Prince had videos of him having sex with underage boys.

His case will be heard in 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna.
