A Jefferson Parish deputy is in critical condition after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a ditch while responding to what turned out to be a false report of a burglary in progress early Tuesday.
Officer Jarone Fountain was traveling westbound on Live Oak Drive when he crashed about 100 yards west of Willswood Drive in Waggaman, according to a press release.
The roadways around the intersection of Live Oak Drive and Willswood will be closed for several hours, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office announced.
Fountain and other deputies were dispatched at 2:37 a.m. to an address on Primrose Lane after an elderly woman called and reported five people had climbed through a window into her home and were refusing to leave, Col. John Fortunato, commander of the sheriff’s Public Information Office, said.
“While conducting a search of the home, our officers were told by an elderly male who was also in the home, that the female caller suffers from dementia and there was no one in their home.,” Fortunato said. “The officers completed their search and determined there were no signs of forced entry and no one else was in the home.”
