Jefferson Parish is expanding its bus service on both banks of the Mississippi River starting Saturday, officials announced this week.
The “W1 Avondale” and “W10 Huey P. Long” transit routes on the West Bank will add Saturday service, officials said. The “E1” route on Veterans Memorial Boulevard will add an additional bus on Saturdays and Sundays.
More information is available by calling Jefferson Transit at 504.818.1077.
Meanwhile, in parish roadway news, beginning 8 a.m. Aug. 10 and ending on Aug. 11 at 5 p.m., the left, eastbound lane of West Esplanade Avenue at Homestead Avenue will be closed, officials said. So will the north and southbound lanes of Homestead at West Esplanade, meaning motorists will not be able to use the canal crossing there and will need to go to the next one.
The closure will permit Fleming Construction Company to repair a 24-inch water main there at an estimated cost of $10,500, officials said. Work should finish on time barring any unforeseen weather-related setbacks or contractor delays.
One westbound lane of West Esplanade has been closed at northbound Hermann Street since 9 a.m. Monday as crews replace a section of concrete street, officials said. It should reopen by 3 p.m. Aug. 10, when the $4,000 project is slated to be finished, barring any contractor delay or weather-related setback, officials said.
