The application process to sign up for St. Tammany Parish Public School System prekindergarten classes is underway for the 2018-2019 school year.
To qualify for general education pre-K classes, a child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2018, meet income requirements and live in the attendance area served by the school.
The first step to qualify is to complete the application for early childhood care and education at www.stpsb.org/childcare. After applying online, income must be verified and eligibility determined. Bring the required income documents to one of the following locations:
Brooks Educational Center, 2544 Sgt. Alfred Drive, Slidell, on Feb. 28 or March 1 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Harrison Curriculum Center, 706 W. 28th Ave., Covington, March 1-2 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Families must provide one of the following documents to determine income eligibility:
- Food Stamp Eligibility letter (SNAP) noting case certification period and the child’s name.
- Two consecutive check stubs within two months of completing income verification for each working adult supporting the family. Eligibility is based on total household income of family members supporting the child.
- Monetary determination letter from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, if unemployed.
- Current foster care placement agreement from Department of Children and Family Services.
Once income verification is complete and eligibility is determined, the date, time and location to register in person will be provided.
For information about student eligibility, placement or to make an appointment for a different time to verify income, contact the St. Tammany Parish School System pre-K office at (985) 898-3306.
