A 40-year-old Lacombe woman was arrested Friday after authorities said she beat to death a 22-month-old foster child who had been placed in her care.

Trenique Faciane, 40, was booked on a count of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after she told detectives she used a hairbrush to beat the little girl, who was two months shy of her second birthday. Faciane then shook the child and dropped her in a bathtub, according to George Bonnett, a spokesman for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators are seeking a warrant to book the foster mother on first-degree murder, according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

Coroner Charles Preston identified the child as Madison Parrott. She was living in Lacombe with Faciane, but her biological mother lives in Bogalusa, he said. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Paramedics took the child to the Louisiana Heart Hospital on Thursday after receiving a 911 call from Faciane’s home reporting that the little girl was vomiting and unresponsive. The child later died at a south shore hospital.

Medical staff found her injuries suspicious and called the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives spoke to Faciane at the hospital and brought her in for questioning, at which time she admitted beating and shaking the child, Bonnett said. Detectives, who got a search warrant for Faciane’s home, took the brush and other items. They then obtained a warrant for her arrest.

Faciane is one of the owners of Wee Wisdom Learning Center, a privately owned child care facility in Slidell, but Bonnett said she is not involved in its day-to-day operations.
