elisMelissa Henry is leading Matt Faust in early voting for the St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court race.

Henry had 10,077 votes, or 52 percent, to Matt Faust’s 9,168.

Malise Prieto, who is in her fifth term as clerk, announced that she would not seek another term after months of campaigning by attorney Nelson Rivers. She said she no longer had the “fire in the belly’’ to run, citing “ugly politics’’ as the reason. Her departure prompted Melissa Henry, a department head in her office, and Matt Faust, a former banker who once sat on the Covington City Council to jump into the race. The runoff had been quiet, but in the final days, Faust sent out a mailer that attacked Henry’s personal financial history, including a bankruptcy filing. That attack prompted Prieto to jump to Henry’s defense on Facebook.
