Brian Trainor, considered the front-running in the race to succeed Walter Reed as district attorney for Washington and St. Tammany Parishes, took over the lead from Alan Black as 74 of the 199 precincts reported.

Trainor, who is on leave of absence from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office where he is the number two official, has 9,119 votes, or 34 percent. Warren Montgomery was in second place with 6,469. Alan Black was bumped down to third place with 6,085, and Roy Burns was in last place with 4,646.

That tally represents 28 of Washington Parish’s 41 precincts and 51 of the 158 precincts in Slidell.
