With all 22 precincts reporting, voters near Covington split on two linked millages to help launch Recreation District No. 10, meaning neither will go into effect. City leaders, who had been very hopeful that the millages would pass, will have to go back to the drawing board on recreation.

In Bush and Sun, voters were going against a tax to help fund Recreation District No. 2. With all six precincts reporting, the millage was failing by a 60 percent to 40 percent margin.

The two proposals that make up the 4-mill Recreation District 10 would have helped fund a new gym, and taken some of the pressure off of Covington’s municipal recreation department, the only such in the parish.

Three fire district millage renewals each were approved by wide margins.
