Friends, a Madisonville restaurant that has been closed since Hurricane Isaac, burned late Sunday. The fire is now the subject of a criminal investigation, according to State Fire Marshal Butch Browning.

The Advocate’s partner, WWL-TV Eyewitness News, reported that news viewers began sending in video of the fire after 11 p.m. Sunday.

Browning told Eyewitness News that he believes the fire has a suspicious origin.

“At this point the investigation is a criminal investigation,” he said.

The popular restaurant had been without power since last year’s storm, but Browning said there was a party there Sunday night and that suspicious activity was reported in the area afterwards.
