Pelican Park fall sports registration set

Pelican Park and St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 1 near Mandeville will hold registration for fall sports from July 28 to Aug. 12.

The district will offer the following fall sports:

BASEBALL , ages 6 to 14 (as of April 30, 2014)

CHEERLEADING , ages 7 to 10 (as of Sept. 12, 2014)

FOOTBALL CLINIC , ages 5 to 6 (as of July 1, 2014)

FOOTBALL , ages 7 to 12 (as of July 1, 2014)

VOLLEYBALL , ages 9 to 15 (as of Sept. 1, 2014).

Preseason practices for fall sports begin in late August, with games beginning in early September.

Returning players may register at New players must register at the Castine Center office on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Aug. 2 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Slidell High golf tournament set Friday

Slidell High School Quarterback Club will host its annual golf tournament Friday, July 25, at the Pinewood Country Club. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. For information, call (985) 640-3534.

Chris Duhon Charity Golf tourney Saturday

The sixth annual Chris Duhon Charity Golf Tournament will be Saturday, July 26, at Oak Harbor Golf Club. The four-person scramble with a shotgun start begins at 12:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Chris Duhon Stand Tall Scholarship Fund.

Registration is at 10 a.m. Cost is $100 for individuals.

A putting contest will be held at 11 a.m. There will be food, cash prizes for first and second place, a 50/50 raffle, hole challenges including closest to pin and more.

Rock the Road for Northshore Harbor Center

A 5K and 1-mile fun run to benefit the Friends of the Northshore Harbor Center will be at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at 100 Harbor Center Blvd. near Lake Pontchartrain south of Slidell. There will be cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers, awards for age-division winners and a medal for every person who finishes the races.

Registration cost includes T-shirt, post-race refreshments, a chance to win door prizes and more. Early bird registration is available through Aug. 1.

Fall football in Madisonville

St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 14 near Madisonville is holding registration for fall football. Football registration is online only, and will be open through Aug. 9 to children ages 5 to 12. Evaluations will be held Aug. 9.

Madisonville soccer registration planned

St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 14 near Madisonville is holding registration for soccer through Aug. 8. Each child must be at least 4 years old and not older than 13 on or before July 31 to play.

Evaluations will be held Aug. 15-16. U6 and U8 games are co-ed and will be played at Coquille Recreation Complex. U10, U12 and U14 games will be played against clubs throughout the area, and there will be home and away games.

BAIT-N-WAIT: Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville will hold its annual Bait-N-Wait Fishing Derby for children 15 and younger on Saturday, July 26, from 8 a.m. until noon. Bring your bait and fishing pole. There will be a casting competition. A wildlife educator will be on hand to weigh and measure fish and prizes will be given for biggest catches. Three will be kids’ activities. Fairview-Riverside is at 119 Fairview Drive, just off La. 22 one mile east of Madisonville. The derby is free with paid park admission of $2 per person ages 4-61. Activities include Bicycling the Back Trails, 6 p.m. Monday, July 28 on NNC’s seven-plus miles of scenic paths with David Moeller. Helmets are required, and mountain bikes (or wide-tired bikes) are recommended. A nature walk provides a close-up view at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.
