STPSO searching for hammer-wielding gas station robber _lowres

Suveillance video shows a suspect in Mandeville gas station robbery Monday night.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a man who robbed a Mandeville-area gas station with a hammer, a spokeswoman said.

The man entered the Danny and Clyde’s on La. 59 just north of Mandeville around 11 p.m. Monday night and went behind the counter and attempted to open the register, Suzanne Carboni said.

When confronted by the clerk, the man took out a hammer and threatened to hit the clerk with it. He then was able to open the register and take cash before fleeing in a dark gray sedan.

Deputies were unable to find the man or his car, but surveillance video showed him to be white, about 6-3 and 300 pounds, Carboni said. He is bald with a goatee and detectives believe he is older than 40 years old, she added.

Anyone with any information about the suspect is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 898-2338.
