SLIDELL MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY FRIDAY: The Slidell Garden Club invites the public to join them in honoring veterans at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30 at the Veteran’s Memorial Monument.

The monument is at the corner of Sgt. Alfred Drive and Cleveland Avenue near the tennis courts. The featured speaker will be Mike Winberry, USMC 1968-1999. Other participants on the program include North Shore Honor Guard, Gary Knight, Lionel Hicks and Vera Watts.

PENNY PARTY BENEFIT: A “Penny Party” to benefit Joshua Smith will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Possum Hollow Park, 801 Cousin St., Slidell.

Smith, 17, needs surgery for Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare, complex heart defect. Most games at the Penny Party will cost a dime, and food prices will top out at $1.50. This will be the 13th year for the Penny Party, which is being hosted this year by the Calamari, Champagne, Howard and Hursey families, as well as the Krewe of Dionysius.

LIBRARY EBOOK SERVICE: The St. Tammany Parish Library has launched an eBook service called the 3M Cloud Library, which will add nearly 4,000 eBooks to the library’s collection. Patrons can download eBooks directly to their computer or digital device using the 3M Cloud Library app. The app is compatible with Apple, Android, Kindle Fire and Nook devices. WOMEN IN BUSINESS BREAKFAST: Business consultant Dian Lusher will speak on “Juggling Careers, Families, Volunteerism and Still Maintain Your Sanity” during the Pearl Williams Women in Business Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Pinewood Country Club, 405 Country Club Blvd., Slidell.

TEEN READING PROGRAM KICK-OFF PARTY: The teen summer reading program will kick off with a DJ dance party from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Madisonville Branch Library, 1123 Main St., Madisonville. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and will close promptly at 7:15 p.m.

CELEBRATION FOR CANCER SURVIVORS: Slidell Memorial Hospital is holding a “Celebration of Life” event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Slidell Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center, 1120 Robert Blvd., Slidell. CANCER SURVIVORS DAY PICNIC: Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital will hold its annual Cancer Survivors Day Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Cancer Center, 1203 S. Tyler St., Covington.

The celebration recognizes cancer survivors, including anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis, their families and the health care professionals who care for them. The event will include snow cones, cotton candy, the CC’s coffee streetcar, face painting for kids big and small, inflatables, a DJ who is a cancer survivor himself and mini-massages.
